False News: Gegham Manukyan Did Not Serve in the Army

In an article published on May 26, MediaNews referred to candidates of the Armenia Alliance, noting that some of the first numbers on the party list were people who had neither served in the army nor had ever had any relation to it. In the list of those officials was also Gegham Manukyan. The MP candidate himself got in touch with Media.am and Factcheck.ge, providing his military document that proves that Manukyan has undergone mandatory military service.

MediaNews news site singled out 8 people from the candidate list of the Armenia Alliance: Ishkhan Saghatelyan, Armen Gevorgyan, Artsvik Minasyan, Artur Ghazinyan, Gegham Manukyan, Andranik Tevanyan, Ashot Simonyan, and Armen Charchyan, noting that those candidates did not serve in the army.

This information was shared by civic.am, araratnews.am, FreeNews, and several Facebook pages.

Gegham Manukyan

Although there is no information about Gegham Manukyan’s military service in the published parts of his biography, we ascertained that he did serve in the army.

MP candidate Gegham Manukyan provided his military booklet to Media.am and Factcheck.ge, which proves that Manukyan underwent mandatory military service in the army.

The document reveals that Gegham Manukyan served in the 84565 military unit, which, according to open sources, was located in Zerbst, East Germany.

Therefore, the claim that the MP candidate of the Armenia Alliance Gegham Manukyan did not serve in the army is false.
