Fidel Castro’s fake quote is disseminated in the social network. According to the respective publication, Fidel Castro stated that the “next war in Europe will be between Russia and fascism, although the Western world will name this fascism a democracy.” This quote is fake and does not belong to Fidel Castro.

There is no proof in the openly available sources that the aforementioned quote belongs to Fidel Castro. LANIC – Latin American Network Information Centre provides a database which comprises of Fidel Castro’s speeches delivered from 1956 to 1996. As a result of keyword searches at the website no written document with such quote can be found.

Fidel Castro’s biography and records of his speeches are compiled at the website fidelcastro.ru. One of the section at the website is dedicated to his speeches and statement. The search with keywords – such as democracy and fascism – leads to a number of statements in the section, although none of them is identical or similar to the aforementioned quote. This statement cannot be found in the list of Fidel Castro’s 138 most famous statements as well.

On 26 November 2016, a day after Fidel Castro’s death, Reuters published famous quotes of the former Cuban leader as an article. In 2008, The Guardian also offered such an article to the readers. However, in none of these articles can Fidel Castro’s quote about the next war in Europe be found.

Therefore, there is no evidence that would prove that the aforementioned quote does belong to Fidel Castro. The quote is invented and its dissemination in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine serves to justification of Russia’s war.
