Gia Korkotashvili’s Video is Disseminated Through Social Networks in the Wrong Context

Verdict: MANIPULATION

On 15 September 2021, Facebook user Parnaoz Chkadua posted Gia Korkotashvili’s video on social network with a manipulative intent. Currently, the publication has 1,100 shares.

According to the author of the publication, Gia Korkotashvili made a statement in the aftermath of the leaking of allegedly secret wiretapping files from the State Security Service where he uses foul language to criticise the Georgian people and the Georgian Dream.

In fact, the aforementioned video was uploaded on YouTube as early as on 16 October 2017. Therefore, the video upload date is sufficient to understand that Mr Korkotashvili could not possibly be speaking about alleged wiretapping of the State Security Service which was leaked in 2021.

Accordingly, Parnaoz Chkadua’s publication where he claims that Gia Korkotashvili appears in a video where he criticises the Georgian Dream for alleged wiretapping and surveillance is not true. Mr Chkadua distorts the context of the statement shown in the footage.
