of the Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia and its figures for the first nine months of 2017, the number of visitors reached 856,186 which is 33% more as compared to the same period of the previous year. Of note is that 43% of the visitors are foreign nationals. Domestic tourism figures are also on the rise in parallel with the growth of foreign visitors. Domestic tourism increased by 37% for the protected areas alone in the first nine months of 2017 which is indeed a rather high figure.

According to the figures for protected areas for the first nine months of 2017, the highest number of visitors were registered at the Prometheus Cave (147,982 visitors), Martvili Canyon (141,513 visitors) and Kazbegi National Park (132, 392 visitors). The only place where the number of visitors decreased is for the Chachuna Protected Areas where the number of visitors in the first nine months of 2017 was 2,326 which is 10% less as compared to the same period of the previous year.
